My First Volunteering Experience At Word Camp Malaysia And A Recap Of The Tour

, ,

This was the second time I attended WordCamp Malaysia. Last year, I led the Hosting table on Contribution Day at WordCamp Malaysia 2023. This year, I was selected as a Volunteer and also as the Polyglots table lead. Due to a flight delay, I couldn’t attend Contribution Day.

The next day, before going to sleep, I set the alarm for 6 a.m. to get ready. I woke up in the morning, met with Md Abdullah Al Arif, and rented a Grab car to reach the venue. It took around 40 minutes, and I was surprised to see a lot of traffic in Kuala Lumpur city early in the morning.

I was a bit late due to heavy traffic. First, I grabbed my T-shirt and ID card, then started exploring the booths and stalls. However, I felt sleepy, so I took a cup of strong coffee to recharge. It didn’t take long to boost my energy.

Then, I took some group photos with some of my buddies at the stalls and booths. It’s great to see some of our local companies sponsoring WordCamp Malaysia. It’s always wonderful to see them grow and represent our country at foreign WordCamps.

As I arrived in the morning, I didn’t miss the opening ceremony or presentation this time.

Then, at times, I worked as a floor helper, and after lunch, I volunteered as a timekeeper. For this responsibility, I had to monitor some sessions from start to finish, and the best sessions were the following. I have been a big fan of Chaion for the last couple of years, and Aisha’s presentation and energy surprised me. Big shoutout to her.

At the end of WordCamp, there was a raffle draw. I didn’t win anything, as usual. However, my travel buddy won a prize, and he was absent at the time. So, I received his prize from the stage.

I learned a lot of things, especially about no-code contributions, and I gained inspiration for blogging and more. I had a great time there, and it was only possible thanks to the sponsorship from Saturday Drive Inc. A big shoutout to them for sponsoring my entire trip. I would like to thank James, Mia, and Jenny for their love, support, and for allowing me to join at WordCamp Malaysia 2024.

From next day we started our vocational tour from Cameron Highlands. The journey was bit tough and I might not visit there in the future. But the area was so beautyful specially the Flora Park, tea garden, strawberry farm and the foods.

Then, our next destination was Penang, and we heard that it had only rained seven times in the last five years. However, after we arrived, it rained for both of our days there, and we couldn’t enjoy ourselves at all. Our expectations were completely shattered.

Then we took a flight to Langkawi, and it was the best place I have ever visited in Malaysia. This was the second time I visited, and I could go back many more times without getting bored. I went parasailing, took the Tanjung Rhu Mangrove Tour, went snorkeling, etc. Last year, I rode the cable car and sky bridge, so this time I rested in the hotel while my teammates visited those places.

After finishing our days in Langkawi, we returned to Kuala Lumpur to complete our shopping and rest before our flight back to Bangladesh. It was a memorable journey in my life. There were seven people on the tour, which helped us manage everything and enjoy a carefree experience.
